About Bryan Tweddle

Bryan is a sculptor, designing and making for Theatre, Opera, Ballet, Street Performance, Television, Film, Animation, Educational Projects, Exhibitions and Carnival.

After graduating from Manchester Art College with a postgraduate qualification in Sculpture, Bryan went on to work as an artist, designer, director and maker all over the world. He has created aluminum angels, a submarine rising through a gallery floor, a giant head in a shed, a mind-reading donkey and lots more.

As well as devising, designing and building visual elements for performance and exhibition, Bryan creates public sculpture and works with community groups. After successfully creating and directing the welcoming parade designed to introduce the incoming Grand Duke of Luxembourg to the Canton of Wiltz, he was invited to direct an evening garden celebration 'Visions of Paradise' in the same city. This event was created to celebrate the horticultural elements in Luxembourg's European Capital of Culture year and it was originally intended to be for one night only. The city re-commissioned the event the following year and it was renamed "Nuit des Lampion' and is now in its eighteenth year and Bryan has been the artistic director during this time.

Trier, the oldest city in Germany, wished to established a sister festival for 'Nuit des Lampion' called 'Lichter Garten Fest', to promote cultural cross border collaborations and Bryan created and directed the first event; this festival is now called Illuminale and has been a feature of the regional calendar since 2011.

Bryan is also a co-founder of the Sowerby Bridge 'Winterlight' festival and was the artistic director for ten years. Currently he is one of three international artists devising and creating the content for a new children's museum being built in Europe called Plomm and scheduled to open in April 2024. He is also a member of a small team of engineers, artists, theatre practitioners and light artists, devising and preparing the finale for the bi-centenary celebrations of Locomotive No 1, in Stockton and Darlington during September 2025.
